Minimum Standards Classes
A licensee may earn a maximum of four (4) irrigation credits for a Board approved minimum standards class per renewal.
Attending an Educational Short Course, Seminar or Technical Conference
These can be sponsored by local, state, regional, or national irrigation or green industry associations, societies, universities, colleges, technical institutes, federal agencies, state agencies, manufactures, distributors, or professional associations and businesses. One (1) CE hour may be given for each hour of irrigation related (as determined by the intent of Chapter 89G) program attended. Related programs may be awarded one half (0.5) CE hour for each contact hour. A maximum of four (4) CE hours from related programs may be submitted per renewal. Refreshment and meal breaks are not considered training time.
Attending Irrigation and Green Industry Trade Shows, Field Days, and Tours
These can be conducted by local, state, regional, or national associations, societies, universities, colleges, technical institutes, federal agencies, state agencies, or green industry organizations. One fourth (0.25) CE hour may be awarded for each hour of attendance. Maximum of two (2) irrigation CE hours may be obtained for trade shows, field days, and tours per renewal.
Attaining Additional Certifications
All ten (10) CE hours may be awarded for each examination successfully completed when earning additional irrigation certifications at other levels or in another specialty. Examples include CIC, CID, CLIA, CGIA, CWLM-L, or CLT. Two (2) CE hours may be awarded for obtaining certified plant professional or other certifications from related industries, as determined by the board.
Completing an Irrigation or Business Course from a University, College, or Technical Institute
Three (3) CE hours may be awarded for each credit hour earned by completion of an irrigation or business course through class attendance (online or in-person).
Education through Experience (!!NEW for the 2024 renewal!!)
Three (3) hours continuing education credit may be awarded for irrigation work performed on any given job. One (1) hour of CE may be awarded for every forty (40) documented hours of irrigation construction and contracting related work. This new CE category was designed to give irrigation contractors credit for the valuable learning that takes place while working on the job. Forty (40) hours was decided upon as the hour calculation as 40 hours is what is considered a ‘normal’ work week, and the amount learned during that time would equal, if not surpass, 1 hour of education. Judging at an Irrigation Competition
Competitions can be sponsored by local, state, regional, or national irrigation or green industry associations, societies, universities, colleges, technical institutes, federal agencies, or state agencies. One half (0.5) irrigation CE hours will be awarded for each hour of judging. Maximum of two (2) irrigation CE hours may be obtained for judging a competition per renewal.
Teaching at an Irrigation or Business Short Course or Seminar
One (1) CE hour may be awarded for each instruction hour of short business courses or seminars. Even though an instructor might teach the same material several times in different locations, credit may be earned each time the material is presented.
Teaching an Irrigation Course at a University, College, or Technical Institute
All regularly scheduled semester or quarter type irrigation courses with a minimum of three (3) credit hours will be considered. One (1) CE hour may be earned for each credit hour taught the first time an instructor teaches the course. The CE hours earned are halved each subsequent time the course is taught. A maximum of eight (8) irrigation CE hours may be obtained for this area of teaching per renewal. Related courses include soil, water, and plant physiology.
Teaching an In-House Irrigation Training Course or Green Industry Training Course
These courses may be conducted by irrigation industry manufacturers, distributors, dealers, or licensed irrigation contractors. The course outline must be submitted with the continuing education application. One (1) CE hour may be awarded for each hour of instruction.
Attending an In-House Irrigation Training Course or Green Industry Training Course
These courses may be conducted by irrigation industry manufacturers, distributors, dealers, or licensed irrigation contractors. The course outline must be submitted with the continuing education application. One (1) CE hour may be awarded for each hour of instruction. A maximum of five (5) CE hours of in-house training may be submitted per renewal.
Items for Which the CEU Committee will Determine Credits to be Awarded
Presenting an irrigation paper to local, state, regional, or national irrigation or green industry associations, societies, universities, colleges, technical institutes, federal agencies, state agencies, or professional associations; writing irrigation books or sections of irrigation books; writing irrigation articles for professional publications or magazines; writing reference manuals; writing questions for certification examinations; online courses not sponsored by a university or college.
Committee Service
Committee service shall have a direct relationship to the practice of Irrigation Contracting as defined in Chapter 89G of the General Statutes of North Carolina, and shall contain elements which will enhance the health, safety, and welfare of the North Carolina citizens being served by NC licensed Irrigation Contractors. One half (0.5) irrigation CE hour may be awarded for each hour of committee service. Maximum of two (2) irrigation CE hours for committee service may be submitted per renewal.
Board Service within the Irrigation or Green Industry
Service on an irrigation or green industry Board may count for five (5) CE hours; three (3) irrigation, and two (2) business. One half (0.5) irrigation CE hour may be awarded for each hour of Board service. Maximum of five (5) CE hours for Board service may be submitted per renewal.
